The Andrew’s government announced that the youth justice system will be handed over to the adult prison system. A new 224 cell high security youth facility will also be built, which will include a super-max unit.
Charandev Singh from ATJC spoke on 3CR’s Doin’ Time on Monday 6 February about how this new system will continue to affect the most vulnerable and marginalised children and young people in Victoria. He said the government’s plan makes “no mention of rehabilitation… no mention of school and education” and will only “accelerate violence in the community”.
